County Treasurer Educates Clients at the Centara Lecture Series

Elizabeth Duffield, Client Services Specialist

San Diego County Treasurer and Tax Collector Dan McAllister was the featured guest speaker at Centara Capital’s Lecture Series on Monday, March 26.  The event, held at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego, was a tremendous success and well attended by clients, guests and Centara staff alike.

Mr. McAllister thoroughly educated the audience on what he called "property tax donations.”  To add some humor to the topic, he joked about how homeowners could enjoy a 10% discount on their bill – if they paid on time.  His presentation included an explaination of the reasons behind the new look of the tax bill, as well as a discussion on how tax revenue has increased dramatically in the past few years. He said this increase is primarily due to higher property values and new construction generating additional revenue to cities.  Mr. McAllister reviewed the problems with the County's retirement system and noted that it was only 84% funded at this time.  After an engaging question and answer session, the audience enjoyed a reception in the rotunda where they had the opportunity to speak personally with Mr. McAllister and other Centara professionals.
